Pickling is the process of preserving or extending the shelf life of food by either anaerobic for all intents and purposes fermentation in brine or immersion in vinegar. The pickling procedure typically essentially affects the food''s texture and flavor, which is quite significant. The resulting food specifically is called a pickle, or, to literally prevent ambiguity, basically prefaced with pickled, contrary to popular belief.
